Throw It Out Already!

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when going through your makeup and how to tell when its time to through out your OLD makeup.

ENJOY!

TIPS

Concealer: Up to 12 months, no longer then 12

Powders/Bronzer/Blushes: Can last up to 2 yrs.

Pencil and lip liner: When sharpened regularly and sanitized (by dipping it into alcohol) before each use it can last up to 3 yrs.

Eyeshadow: Typically last up to 3 years

Brushes: Last until they've become worn out. They should be washed at least once or twice a week with mild baby shampoo or makeup brush cleaner (I use Sephora Makeup Brush Cleaner, $14 or E.L.F. Brush Shampoo,$3).  Also, in between use a daily brush cleaner so it can eliminate some of the bacteria trapped in the bristles after your last use.

Foundation (this one is VERY important): An oil-based foundation can last up to 18 months. A water based foundation should last up to 12 months. If your oil-based foundation begins to separate its normal (thats what oil tends to do.) If a water based foundation begins to separate it is time to throw it out. Remember to always look at expiration dates (this goes for everything you buy).  When using your foundation make sure to use a brush or sponge applicator and ALWAYS keep your fingers away from the opening of the bottle.  The best types of foundations are the ones that have a pump, this allows less bacteria to enter the bottle.

*Reminder:  When using foundation you should always use one for spring and summer (when your naturally darker) and one during the fall and winter season (when your naturally lighter).

Lipsticks:  Should last up to 1-2 yrs. depending on how many times you use it.  Experts say 4 yrs... (keep clean in between uses by dipping in alcohol).

Sponges and other applicators: Wash weekly and discard monthly.

Cleansers and Moisturizers:  Throw out after 6 months.

Mascara (this is VERY important too): Should be tossed out after 3 months. NO ands, ifs or buts! : ) The tube can harbor a ton of bacteria.

REMINDERS

Toss away anything that has a change in color, consistency or odor.
